源氏香是一种组香。（一组几种香，轮流点用，品味道变化。）它采用五种不同的香，再分别包出五份，共得到二十五份香。再将这二十五份混合起来，抽选五包来进行焚香。闻一包，就在纸上画出一道“竖线”，如果五包中出现了同样的香，就在重复的香对应的“竖线”上画“横线”将其连接。这样反复操作，我们就能从二十五包香中，得到五十二种组合，也得到五十二种“横竖线”的组合图形。这就是【源氏香图】的画法。《源氏物语》共五十四帖，可香图之后五十二种，不够分，因此有两位是没有对应香图的。分别是桐壶和末摘花。有说，是因为这二位分别是最初贴和最后贴，因此舍掉。由于此香取《源氏物语》冠名，斯文高雅，因此深受雅士喜爱。源氏香除了分享雅兴，还有种“功能”是焚香问吉凶。
Genji incense is a group incense. (A group of several fragrances can be used in turn to taste different fragrances.) It uses five different fragrances, and then packages five portions respectively, and a total of 25 fragrances are obtained. Then mix these 25 portions and select five packages to burn incense. Smell a packet and draw a “vertical line” on the paper. The Tale of Genji has a total of 54 copies, but there are 52 types of incense pictures, which are not enough to be divided. Therefore, there are two people who do not have corresponding incense pictures. They are tung pot and end picking flowers. It is said that because these two people are the first and the last, they are rejected. Because this incense is named after the Tale of Genji and is elegant, it is deeply loved by scholars. In addition to sharing Yaxing, Genji incense also has a “function” of burning incense to ask good or bad luck.
