The manuscript ‘The Book of Royal Costume of Duke William IV and Albert V of Bavaria’ showcases with exquisite illustrations the military and civilian attire, uniforms, and war insignia used in the court during the reign of Duke William IV and his son Albert V of Bavaria from 1508 to 1551.

The first part of the manuscript was originally compiled by the Land Minister of Bavaria as a reference material for heraldry, including some content from Hofkleiderbuch (Book of Clothing). The second part of the manuscript mainly displays various badges, such as aristocratic and municipal badges, as well as exquisite designs of various historical or fictional characters and countries. The manuscript also includes a painting based on the ancestor lineage mural of the Duke of Bavaria. The manuscript is housed in the Bavarian State Library.
