“孝”是儒家伦理思想的核心，是千百年来中国社会维系家庭关系的道德准则，是中华民族的传统美德，是我中华民族传统文化之精髓。元代郭居敬辑录古代24个孝子的故事，编成《二十四孝》。后来的印本都配上图画，通称《二十四孝图》，成为宣扬孝道的通俗读物。郭居敬，元代尤溪人，字义祖。《二十四孝》所列榜样十分典型、突出，更具有广泛的代表性。从时间上看，有虞、周、汉、魏、晋、唐、宋；从层次地位上看，有帝王、大夫、书生、百姓；从年龄上看，有老者、成人、儿童；从内容上看，有至贫孝亲的、有危难救亲的、有显贵孝亲的。孝是中国古代重要的伦理思想之一，元代郭居敬辑录古代24个孝子的故事，编成《二十四孝》，序而诗之，用训童蒙，成为宣传孝道的通俗读物。以后，又有人刊行《二十四孝图诗》、《女二十四孝图》等，流传甚广。在传统的木雕、砖雕和刺绣上，常见这类题制的图案。

In traditional wood carving, brick carving and embroidery, this kind of motif is common.
