掐丝珐琅又称景泰蓝，这种工艺品在明代景泰年间（公元1450——1456年）。无论技艺的精湛美妙，还是产品的数量，都达到了前所未有的繁荣。在世界浩繁的工艺美术长河中，阿拉伯、西亚、埃及、希腊、波斯等国也都有各自特点的珐琅工艺美术，但不外乎是掐丝珐琅、錾胎珐琅、画珐琅、烧银兰四种。这些国家的珐琅技术有的已有几千年的悠久历史。在元代，阿拉伯大食窑（波丝一带）制作的器皿被作为一种崭新的艺术品加以赞颂。元代吴渊颖曾写试专门描述了这种工艺品的艺术特色。
