《图像与风格——故宫藏传佛教造像》一书收录了故宫博物院所藏藏传佛教精品铜造像246尊,其年代从公元6或7世纪至19世纪,产地为西北印度喀什米尔、斯瓦特、北印度波罗王朝、尼泊尔、西藏西部、西藏中部、喀尔喀蒙古、内蒙古以及北京地区(尤其是清宫造办处)。全书按照佛教图像学的传统分为五方佛、本尊、般若佛、菩萨、女尊、护法六类,每类都有总说明。每一尊神均以章嘉的汉文译名为标准名号,同时注明其他译名和相应的梵文名号。本书对每尊造像的艺术风格、时代特点、辨伪方法都有详尽说明,使读者能够完整地了解藏传佛教艺术风格的发展轨迹。前言概述了从古代印度、西藏本土直到清代乾隆时期宫廷与佛教图像学有关的重要资料和研究成果,是故宫博物院近年来这一研究领域研究水平的集中反映。
The book “Image and Style – Tibetan Buddhist Statues in the Palace Museum” includes 246 high-quality bronze statues of Tibetan Buddhism in the Palace Museum, which are from the 6th or 7th century to the 19th century, and are produced in Kashmir, Swat, the North Indian Baltic Dynasty, Nepal, western Tibet, central Tibet, Karkha Mongolia, Inner Mongolia and Beijing (especially the Palace Museum Office of the Qing Dynasty). According to the tradition of Buddhist iconography, the whole book is divided into six categories, namely, the Five-Party Buddha, the Buddha, the Prajna Buddha, the Bodhisattva, the Maiden Buddha and the Dharma Protector. Each category has a general description. Each god takes the Chinese translation of Zhangjia’s name as the standard name, while indicating other translations and corresponding Sanskrit names. This book has a detailed description of the artistic style, era characteristics, and identification methods of each statue, so that readers can fully understand the development track of Tibetan Buddhist artistic style. The preface summarizes the important materials and research achievements related to Buddhist iconography in the imperial court from ancient India and Tibet to the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, which is a concentrated reflection of the research level of this research field in the Palace Museum in recent years.
