此本《白描罗汉册》是清代宫廷画家冷枚所画，清康熙56年，册页共二十帧。每帧罗汉图配有朱印、题跋。冷枚的这套白描罗汉，不是画的传统意义上罗汉。他画的都是在修为上已经了脱生死、证入涅槃的得道高僧，却依然留在人间度化众人。比如今天介绍的大迦叶尊者、初祖达摩等等。冷枚，清代宫廷画家，大约生于1669年，卒于1742年。字吉臣，号金门画史，山东胶州人，焦秉贞弟子。善画人物、界画，尤精仕女。所画人物工丽妍雅，笔墨洁净，色彩韶秀，其画法兼工带写，点缀屋宇器皿，笔极精细，亦生动有致。
This volume of “Line Drawing Arhat Collection” was painted by Leng Mei, a court painter of the Qing Dynasty. In the 56th year of the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty, there were 20 pages in total. Each Arhat diagram is provided with a vermilion seal, inscription and postscript. Lengmei’s line drawing of Arhats is not a traditional painting of Arhats. He painted Taoist monks who had escaped from life and death and achieved nirvana in their accomplishments, but still remained in the world to educate people. For example, today’s introduction of the Great Buddha, the first ancestor Dharma, and so on. Leng Mei, a court painter of the Qing Dynasty, was born in 1669 and died in 1742. Ji Chen, born in Jiaozhou, Shandong Province, is a disciple of Jiao Bingzhen. He is good at drawing figures and boundary paintings, especially refined ladies. The painted characters are beautiful and elegant, clean in brush and ink, and young in color. Their painting method is also a work belt, embellishing the house utensils. The strokes are extremely fine and vivid.
