Mr. Li Chunling’s book “Li’s Form and Meaning Tai Chi” not only contains the essence of Shanxi’s form and meaning, but also his concept of “practicing Form and Meaning Tai Chi to seek Tai Chi strength, and practicing Tai Chi to seek Form and Meaning strength” can almost be said to have reached a perfect state.

The main practice method of Li’s Xingyi Taijiquan is “internal practice”, which cultivates clumsiness and solidity to obtain spiritual power. It follows the martial arts principles of washing marrow, Yi Jing, and Yi Bone. The movements are concise and simple, the martial arts are rigorous and low, and the internal strength is full of domineering power. Taking the balance of yin and yang as the body, the five elements are used to generate restraint, which is a combination of easy reasoning and has a complete, rich, and profound and delicate method of reasoning. Its main characteristics are: “internal training” as the main focus, single step technique, low frame, complete strength, combination of cultivation and practice, and dual cultivation of life and soul.

The main focus of Li’s form and meaning Tai Chi is on “internal practice”, which emphasizes the harmony of breathing and the accumulation of qi in the elixir field. Over time, Qi accumulates into the marrow, and bone strength grows on its own, like iron and stone. Practicing this is the strength of the bones, which penetrates into the interior. Not only that, but also strengthening the foundation and strengthening the energy. After being full of qi and surging, a protective layer will swell around the body, which can instinctively resist external blows. This is fundamentally different from the way Waijia Quan trains the skin and flesh to resist blows. In terms of the design of the martial arts framework, Li’s technique uses the twisting movements of the limbs to promote the integration of internal energy, emphasizing the importance of meaning to form, form to qi, and qi to strength.

Li’s form and meaning Tai Chi mainly consists of chicken legs and tiger steps, with a single weight pile method, three in the front and seven in the back. The body is equipped with five bows, roots at the feet, and the back has a posture of supporting the mountain. The internal strength is interconnected. The single step technique is closely related to Taoist art, which allows for the opening of a hundred meridians by the Ren Du. The lifting and stepping of the chicken legs correspond to the stretching of the body shape, making it popular to practice Qi. Xingyi Taijiquan is a technique that involves using the “Stake in Motion” technique to gather qi and enter the marrow. Its single weight helps to open the hip bone, relax and activate joints, and connect the upper, lower, and inner and outer parts. The single step technique of form and meaning is an important feature of Li’s form and meaning Tai Chi

Low and heavy skill set

The Li family’s martial arts emphasizes a deep and rigorous fist stance, emphasizing the training of the lower body’s strength. They believe that low stance and downward movement are the fundamental way to generate strength, as well as the key to achieving a clear distinction between reality and emptiness, and opening up yin and yang. In the design of the twelve forms, the practice of twisting and folding the body has been added, which is also the same principle. Li’s boxing emphasizes the training of deep and dark energy on the basis of low stance. True internal energy is a very powerful and domineering superpower, not obtained through physical or cold or hot sensations, nor simply through practicing gentleness. Therefore, a low and heavy frame is one of the tricks for training internal energy in Li’s martial arts, and it is also the only way to train the Six Harmonies and Integral Energy to obtain spiritual power.

Full of strength

Li’s Xingyi Taijiquan emphasizes the combination of external and internal elements, as well as the combination of internal and external elements. It cultivates the Six Harmonies and Unification of Strength. The six combinations do not simply refer to the combination of the left hand and the left foot, the right hand and the right foot. In the six combinations, the left foot and the right hand, as well as the left hip and right shoulder, are integrated as a whole. Under the rules of the Eight Essential Body Techniques, the upper and lower parts form an overall spring force. The Six Harmonies Integral Force is not a static force, but a dynamic and changing force. The root is stable, the middle is lively, and the spirit is slightly restrained. It is also the Nine Melodies Continuous Ball Force, so the fists and feet are full of integral force and penetrating force. When practicing Li’s martial arts, the hands and feet move in and out at the same time, with a special emphasis on not leaving the toes, which is a strict external hexagram. This requirement is not just a deliberate pursuit of neatness in appearance, but its beauty will be discussed elsewhere. The practice of Li’s boxing technique involves both the whole body and the whole body. Therefore, not only is it about the neat movement of hands and feet, but also the same movement of the body.

Combination of nourishing and training

People in the Dandao often talk about “immortals without illness”, and Li’s boxing also emphasizes “martial artists without defeating the weak”, advocating a combination of cultivation and practice, breathing in harmony with the Tao, emphasizing introversion, and avoiding wasting energy. Start with strengthening the foundation and strengthening the internal environment. Sweeping dirt and removing dirt, washing marrow and facilitating menstruation, all natural diseases are eliminated without any occurrence. The Li’s martial arts technique has a low and heavy fist frame, and the practice process is very difficult, especially during the low frame and dark power stage, sweating profusely. However, it is important not to use too much intention, and not to waste energy. Li’s practice emphasizes the unity of form and meaning, both inside and outside. In the folding and twisting of the body, it forces the connection of internal energy and nourishes the whole body. Therefore, the essence of internal practice is still internal nourishment.

Double cultivation of life and soul

Li’s cultivation method is a dual cultivation of life and soul. In terms of cultivation methods, it not only cultivates the lower elixir field, but also emphasizes the cultivation of the upper elixir field. In terms of appearance, it requires that the hands should not protrude from the toes, especially in Xingyi Tai Chi, the hands should be at the same height as the forehead, and the inner and outer Laogong acupoints should be opposite to the ancestral orifices and mud pills. Through the front and back, the whole body is refreshing, like soaking in rain. After gaining a foothold, Li’s martial arts emphasizes the cultivation of mind and nature, emphasizing the integration of boxing and Zen. On the one hand, it relies on the cultivation of fist techniques to change the mind and nature of the cultivator; On the other hand, in order to reach a higher level, practitioners should also actively put in more effort in their mental cultivation. Practicing boxing is first and foremost about being a person. As much as one can release one’s mind, one can achieve as much in their martial arts. Xingyi Fist is originally a pictographic technique that takes meaning and senses, thus practicing Kung Fu and cultivating great wisdom and wisdom. Entering the Tao and preaching, seeking truth in martial arts is limited, and cultivating one’s mind and nature can turn stone into gold.
