《夜半歌声》是马徐维邦执导的恐怖电影，由金山、胡萍、施超等人出演，1937年2月20日上映 [9] 。 该片讲述从事演剧活动的革命者宋丹萍与大地主女儿李晓霞相恋，却被恶霸汤俊残害毁容，他藏匿于戏院顶楼，为帮助与自己境遇相近的演员小鸥，与仇人汤俊展开殊死搏斗的故事 宋丹萍是个旧民主革命时期的革命者，从事演剧活动。他与大地主女儿李晓霞相恋，遭到大地主的阻挠和早已垂涎晓霞美貌的恶霸汤俊的陷害，汤俊指使人用硝酸烧毁了他的面容和双手。宋丹萍藏匿戏院顶楼，托人假报已死，李晓霞得知后精神失常。每到夜半时分，宋丹萍在戏院楼顶昂首高歌，晓霞在歌声中仿佛得到安慰。十年后，另一个剧团在这座戏院演出，宋丹萍的“夜半歌声”在艺术上帮助了这个剧团。因而在一个偶然的机会，青年演员孙小鸥结识了宋丹萍。宋对孙详细讲述了他的遭遇，并向孙展示被烧伤的狰狞面容，引起孙的强烈悲愤和共鸣，由此宋丹萍与孙晓鸥结为挚友。 又过了三年，由于演出的剧目长期没有改进，剧团经营不景气，面临解散。小鸥在与宋丹萍告别时，宋拿出早已修改好的《热血》剧本，并承诺剧团一定能凭借此剧起死回生。不久，剧团凭借《热血》大获成功，小鸥前往感谢宋丹萍。宋面色凝重地拜托小鸥代替自己看望长久思念而无法相见的晓霞，小鸥不从，并无意中透露自己的心上人是剧团女演员绿蝶。丹萍闻之大失所望，坦言意欲小鸥接替自己带给晓霞幸福生活，小鸥被丹萍真情所打动，答应冒充丹萍与晓霞相见。晓霞见“丹萍”重返，大喜过望，精神面貌焕然一新，但神志仍未恢复正常。几天后，十三年前谋害宋丹萍的恶霸汤俊在看戏时垂涎于女演员绿蝶貌美，戏毕追入后台欲纳之为妾，绿蝶严词拒绝并指出她只属于孙晓鸥。汤再度侮辱绿蝶，小鸥与汤搏斗，汤不胜，恼羞成怒拔出手枪，为保护男友，绿蝶小腹中弹，当即倒地而亡。枪声惊动了藏匿在顶楼的宋丹萍，宋身披黑色斗篷，随即从楼跳下与汤俊激烈搏斗，汤被逼入顶楼，丹萍坦白身份：“我就是十三年前被你害过的宋丹萍。”汤被宋的狰狞面目吓得精神恍惚，在几回合的搏斗之后从顶楼掉下摔死。 激烈的打斗和枪声引来了大量市民围观，市民目睹宋丹萍狰狞的面容，皆误以为妖怪出现，准备打死宋丹萍“除妖”。孙小鸥大声劝解市民无果，同时又有人揭发丹萍以前曾是革命党人，导致军警介入，宋丹萍闻声而逃，被大量市民和军警围困在一废弃二层楼内。在此危急时刻，孙小鸥毅然找到晓霞，坦白前几日冒充丹萍一事，并告诉晓霞实际上丹萍默默守候了她十三年，不过这次肯定是活不成了。晓霞顿时晕厥过去。 丹萍被围困于二层楼内不得脱身，市民与军警皆害怕其狰狞面容而不敢近前。便向楼内投掷火把，整座小楼顿时烈火熊熊。丹萍耐不住大火炙烤，几乎昏倒，又无法脱身，想到大仇已报，内心坦然，便忍痛投入楼边江水中自尽。此时小鸥一直守候在晓霞身边，几小时后，晓霞醒来，不料精神奇迹般地恢复正常，只是说到：“感觉像是做了好长的一场梦” Midnight Singing “is a horror film directed by Ma Xuwei Bang, starring Jin Shan, Hu Ping, Shi Chao, and others.
