本书为《故宫经典》丛书之一种。文房清供是指书房的陈设器具，及与笔、墨、纸、砚相应发展而来的各种辅助用具。根据不同用途，有笔架、笔床、笔筒、笔洗、笔舔、水丞、砚滴、水注、砚屏、墨床、镇纸、镇尺、臂搁、印章、印盒、纸刀等。这些辅助用具的出现要晚于笔、墨、纸、砚，是伴随着文房四宝的发展而兴盛的，逐渐成为重要的书斋陈设。明清时期文房陈设用品发展到巅峰。
本书根据文房用具的性质，分为五大部分，即笔之属，墨之属，砚之属，印章、印泥盒印匣，以及多宝文具盒。每一章前，作者都对此一系列用品的发展做了详尽的分析和介绍，具体藏品则根据时代顺序排列并作出说明。藏品年代由唐延续至清，但以明、清御用文房用品为主，多为清宫旧藏，涉及竹、木、牙、角，以及玉石、瓷器、珐琅等多种材质，制作精美，赏心悦目。本书是一本集欣赏研究为一体的文房陈设用品图书。
This book is one of the “Forbidden City Classics” series. The study of Qing Gong refers to the furnishings and appliances of the study, as well as various auxiliary appliances corresponding to the development of pen, ink, paper and inkstone. According to different uses, there are pen holder, pen bed, pen container, brush wash, pen lick, water cheng, inkstone drop, water injection, inkstone screen, ink bed, paperweight, ruler, arm rest, seal, printing box, paper knife, etc. The appearance of these auxiliary tools was later than that of pens, inks, papers and inkstones. They flourished with the development of the four treasures of the study and gradually became important furnishings of the study. In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the stationery and furnishings reached the peak.
According to the nature of stationery, this book is divided into five parts, namely, the pen, the ink, the inkstone, the seal, the inkpad box and the multi treasure stationery box. Before each chapter, the author has made a detailed analysis and introduction of the development of this series of articles, and the specific collections are arranged and explained according to the order of the times. The collection dates from the Tang Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty, but it is mainly made of stationery used by the Ming and Qing emperors. Most of them are old collections of the Qing Palace, involving bamboo, wood, teeth, horns, jade, porcelain, enamel and other materials. They are exquisite and pleasing to the eye.
