本书是作者胡德生30年以来在故宫博物院从事明清宫廷家具保管与研究的总结之作。全书收入故宫珍藏的明清宫廷家具精品455件（套），约占藏品总量的5%，从类别、材质、装饰等各方面来说，均属当今存世藏品之精华。
This book is a summary of the author Hu Desheng’s 30 years’ experience in the preservation and research of Ming and Qing court furniture in the Palace Museum. 455 pieces (sets) of fine Ming and Qing court furniture collected in the Forbidden City, accounting for about 5% of the total collection, belong to the essence of today’s existing collections in terms of categories, materials, decoration and other aspects.
