《西方的中国影像（1793-1949）：东北写真帖卷》图像资料来源于“南满洲”铁道株式会社总务部庶务课1931年12月编辑出版的《“满洲”写真帖》。
1904年日俄战争后，日俄两国私相授受，签订《朴茨茅斯和约》，规定俄国将从中国取得的旅顺口、大连湾的租界权及其附属特权，转让给日本：将其所获之中国“南满”铁路，及其支路、利权、煤矿等，无偿地转让给日本。1906年日本在大连创立“南满洲”铁道株式会社，简称“满铁”，并于1907年4月开业，以经办铁路、开发煤矿、移民及发展畜牧业等为经营方针。
“满铁”存在期间，主要从事对中国政治、经济、军事、自然、社会等各方面情况的调查与情报的搜集工作，对日本自19世纪末叶以来觊觎已久的中国东北地区，更是进行了全面的情报刺探工作。本卷即是在1931年“九一八”事变后，于当年12月由“满铁”总务部庶务课编辑出版。编辑者编辑《西方的中国影像（1793-1949）：东北写真帖卷》的目的自是为其殖民侵略中国东北地区服务，但这些历史图片中，也保存了当时中国东北地区的山川风貌、社会状况、生产生活、历史文化等多方面的影像内容。

The image data of Western Chinese Images (1793-1949): Northeast Photo Calligraphy is from Manchu Photo Calligraphy, edited and published by the General Affairs Section of the General Affairs Department of South Manchuria Railway Co., Ltd. in December 1931.
After the Russo Japanese War in 1904, Japan and Russia privately gave and received each other, signing the Peace Treaty of Portsmouth, stipulating that Russia would transfer the concession rights and subsidiary privileges of Lushunkou and Dalian Bay obtained from China to Japan: it would transfer the Chinese “South Manchuria” railway, its branches, rights of interest, coal mines, etc., to Japan free of charge. In 1906, Japan established “South Manchuria” Railway Co., Ltd. in Dalian, referred to as “Manchuria Railway” for short, and opened in April 1907, with the management policy of handling railways, developing coal mines, immigration and developing animal husbandry.
During the existence of “Manchurian Railway”, it was mainly engaged in the investigation of China’s political, economic, military, natural, social and other aspects and the collection of information. It also carried out a comprehensive intelligence spy on Northeast China, which Japan had coveted for a long time since the end of the 19th century. This volume was edited and published by the General Affairs Section of the General Affairs Department of the Manchurian Railway in December of that year after the September 18th Incident in 1931. The editor edited the Western Chinese Images (1793-1949): Northeast Pictorial Calligraphy for the purpose of serving its colonial invasion of Northeast China. However, these historical pictures also preserve the image content of mountains and rivers, social conditions, production and life, history and culture in Northeast China at that time.
