赵孟頫（1254—1322），字子昂，号松雪道人，浙江吴兴（今湖州）人。赵孟頫为頫宗室后裔，入元后，亦身居高位。
赵孟頫在“复古”中确定自己的位置。北宋的蔡、苏、黄、米都以行书著名，沿及南宋，成为时尚，都不太注重楷书。宋亡时他已二十多岁，大部分时间生活在元代。在这样的环境里，眼看晋唐以来的书法传统日趋衰落，就主张远追晋人，师法二王。不过“复古”只是一种思想和主张，完全恢复到古代是不可能的。赵孟頫师法晋人，实在是在晋人的书法里写自己，是在“复古”的名目下“出新”，这是他成为元代最负盛名的书法家的原因，也是“赵体”书法影响后世远几百年之久的原因。
赵孟頫传世书法作品很多，而且各体都有。以楷书和行书为最。赵孟頫《真草千字文》真书写得端庄严谨，意在示人以法度；草书用笔温润圆劲，点书精到细腻，结字妍美简静。赵氏《真草千字文》有多本传世，大部分未署书写年代。

Zhao Mengfu decided his position in “retro”. Cai, Su, Huang and Mi of the Northern Song Dynasty were famous for running script, and became fashionable along with the Southern Song Dynasty. They did not pay much attention to regular script. He was in his twenties at the time of the death of the Song Dynasty and spent most of his time in the Yuan Dynasty. In such an environment, seeing the decline of the calligraphy tradition since the Jin and Tang dynasties, we advocate to follow the Jin people and learn from the two kings. However, “retro” is only an idea and proposition, and it is impossible to completely restore to ancient times. Zhao Mengfu imitated Jin people and wrote himself in the calligraphy of Jin people. It was under the name of “retro” that he “created a new”. This is why he became the most famous calligrapher in the Yuan Dynasty, and also why the “Zhao style” calligraphy influenced the later generations for hundreds of years.
Zhao Mengfu has handed down many calligraphic works, and there are various styles. Regular script and running script are the most important. Zhao Mengfu’s “Thousand Characters of True Grass” is written in a dignified and rigorous way, which is intended to show people how to behave; The cursive pen is warm, round and vigorous, the point of the book is exquisite, and the knot is beautiful, simple and quiet. There are many copies of Zhao’s “Gencao Qianzi Wen” handed down, most of which have not been dated.
