刘云樵，生于1909年（宣统元年）农历2月12日，河北省沧州集北头村（今属南皮县）人，字笑尘，人称小霸王，于1992年元月24日在台湾去世，享年84岁。
八极拳代表人物李书文的弟子，精通八极拳、螳螂拳、八卦掌。创办武坛，对八极拳在台湾的推广有很大的贡献。
刘云樵家中世代书香传家，他生于1909年农历2月12日，因为从小身体不好，五岁起，由家中仆人张耀廷教导他迷踪拳，以求强身。他曾经读过两年私塾，在沧州高小就读。八岁时，父亲刘保沂邀请八极拳名家“神枪”李书文，到府教拳。李书文当时在京津一带名气甚大，但因他曾在刘保沂部队担任教习，与刘保沂熟识，因此才能请得动他。李书文教拳认真严格，刘云樵经常因此受伤，但也打下了他在八极拳及披挂掌上头深厚功力的基础。
刘云樵20岁时，父亲原来想让他到朝阳大学法律系念书，但是刘云樵拿着学费，跟着李书文四处闯荡。1931年，李书文应李景林的邀请，到山东国术馆担任总教习，刘云樵随行。当时，李书文另一名弟子张骧伍，正在山东黄县负责维持治安、肃清烟毒、清剿土匪，李书文带着刘云樵前去拜访。刘云樵在这时候初开始展露头角，连连挫败数名前来挑战的武师，得到“小霸王”的称号。
李书文在黄县居住时，张骧伍曾经表演昆吾剑法，请李书文指正，编成昆吾剑二路套招。刘云樵跟着张骧伍，学会了武当剑术、青萍剑法以及昆吾剑法。1931年底，李景林过世，李书文让刘云樵跟着张骧伍，自己继续云游。刘云樵在张骧伍处待了两年多的时间，期间曾经从当地螳螂拳名家丁子成习六合螳螂拳，在宫宝田前来做客时，向宫宝田学习了八个月的八卦掌，但没有正式拜师。
据刘云樵后人的说法，李书文在返回天津的路上，在山东潍县遭人下毒而身亡。但是实际上，李书文是在天津小站李萼芳家中住了两年之后才寿终正寝。无论如何，在李书文死后，刘云樵返回家乡。1936年，在天津击败关东军剑道师范太田德三郎，因而得到国民党情报单位的注意，吸收他成为情报人员，负责暗杀。
民国26年（西元1937年），刘云樵报考陕西凤翔的黄埔军校七分校（第十五期），正式从军报国。民国28年（西元1939年），正式毕业。在等待分发的期间，因打猎，误伤军校校长，被逮捕下狱。经西北长官胡宗南将军讯问，因刘云樵回答：“国家正在危急之时，愿上第一线光荣战死沙场。”得到他的嘉赏，因而无罪，获少尉官阶，至太行山与日军作战，多次受伤，因功擢升连、营、团长。
民国29年（西元1940年），受伤被俘，关在山西运城战俘营。刘云樵以其机智及武功，趁隙逃出，游过黄河，逃回后方。并因此大病一场，在西安疗养。此後加入情报单位，多次深入敌后进行暗杀，曾经有传言认为他即是传说中的“天字第一号”、“长江一号”，但是并没有得到刘云樵的证实。
民国38年（西元1949年），随国民党政府撤退至台湾，曾任职国防部人事次长室、联勤总司令部等部门。
服役期满之后，刘云樵以上校阶退伍，在台北景美家中赋闲了两三年的时间。1967年，总统府侍卫室准备进行改组，经其军校同学孔令晟将军的推荐，得到蒋介石召见后，在总统府侍卫室担任安全顾问，并教授侍卫八极拳。之后在蒋经国举办的“联指部拳术师资训练班”中担任教练，训练了四期学员，其中包括蒋经国总统卫队的七海警卫编组。
致力于使国人认识正统国术，提倡传统武术的传承，发扬中华文化固有的国粹，提高国人习武之风气，1968年曾被请到马来西亚举行的“中国武术表演大会”，后更于台湾创办武坛，以发扬八极拳，并发行《武坛杂志》。
1992年元月24日卒于台湾，享年84岁。
刘云樵，字笑尘，沧南集北头世家。始祖刘义，明代自即墨迁沧。累代官宦成进士者，一十二人；富甲乡里。十六传，至其父之沂，为庠生；伯之洁，为廪生，均入保定军校习陆军，有誉于时。一九〇九年，阴历二月初八日，刘氏诞生于乡，为十七世（《县志》只及十五世，且未邀刘氏族人参与修撰）。上有二姐，皆不幸而早世，遂为东支唯一之男丁。然自幼孱弱，腹大如鼓，父母忧之。其父祖两代之保镖，太祖及迷踪两门高手——张耀庭氏，遂负专责，照拂幼主，日施推拿之术，徐徐而运动之。体稍健，即以太祖长拳开蒙。刘父位尊体胖，亦练此拳，以代体操。时而父子同练，百零八式，慢拉架子之时，刘父每曰：「云樵，你长大也不必做官发财，只把身体弄好，续了咱们刘家的香烟，历代祖宗都要感激你的恩啊！」。继习迷踪，体益健。刘父大喜，以张氏亦系其家佃农，以田尽赐之，厚给养老之资送归。
其同时，刘父四出探访，必欲物色最佳名手，以课娇儿也。于是套大车、卑词色，迎神枪李书文氏归，与刘氏同饮食起居，专攻八极、劈挂之艺。三载纯功，精进勇猛，仅得小八极一套。刘氏设宴，酒酣，稍稍问如此，李氏怒目曰：「他该练什么我不知道？」阖座色沮。
盖李氏技艺精绝，而脾气异常。生平较技，伤于其手下者无数。尝为直督李景林督办之西席，以故忤之，景林遣之归。李氏衔之，思有以为报。景林以剑名，有「天下第一剑」之誉。而李氏每薄之曰：「穿个大挂练剑，又不会，一拳打死！」
一九三一年，刘氏艺成，李氏携之游鲁。盖以为欲进其艺，必试实敌，为唯一不二之法门。且欲觅机缘，挫辱景林。而刘氏世家子，与冯玉祥、张继等为亲眷。北洋军中，民国官场，多甚素稔，可资庇荫也。
抵黄县，下榻于李氏门人，第五路总指挥——张骧伍将军司令部中。骧伍实善景林，多为缓颊回护。刘氏则日出访友较技，拳械无敌手，一时有「小霸王」之誉。
某日晨，出指挥部后门便是丁家花擙蔚堣坏蝼阴虼|馆，见国术班中，一慈祥老者方在「误人子弟」。刘氏搦战，竟受其一招「展拍」打翻在地。骧伍知悉六合螳螂掌门高人——丁子成氏，遂代为设法，礼聘丁氏，课此莽撞小师弟以螳螂之技。
其间又遇骧伍之八卦业师——宫宝田氏。稍一试习，便深好之。乃随宫氏赴烟台，深求其艺于北山寓所。骧伍查缉烟毒，清剿土匪，杀人实伙；鲁人至以「张阎王」、「张剥皮」呼之。而没入之烟土，则以之为小师弟之贽敬，献供宫氏享用。刘父在乡，又月汇银洋为束修。刘氏遂以黑白两色之学费，深造阴阳八卦之神掌，亦可谓奇遇矣！
李氏长日无俚，落寞殊甚，遂辞骧伍护送，飘然只身返里。经潍县，耳其大名，求较技，又毙敌。人乃伪为敬畏，挽留款待，竟毒杀之！绝代高手，竟殒其身；时在一九三四年也。骧伍知会刘氏，复仇缉凶两无着落。兴会颇败，怅然遂作归计。
一九三六年时，天津租界日军将校，有太田德三郎者，为日本剑道高段名手。素轻吾华武术无用，而剑技尤属花法，直如舞踊，不堪一击。于是公开求战，又无应者，其势益张，以为吾华无人。刘氏闻讯忿然，夜车赴津，订约假法国公园，公开比剑。天津武术界为之奋兴，咸来搦阵。及期，双方持木剑争锋。太田挥刃直扑，刘氏侧攻应之，「一剑化三影」，连中其胁，太田为之弃剑抚膺而降。
于是津门武林，咸善待之。晤师兄霍殿魁，殿魁讶其八极、劈挂同出一师，而多有不牟。与八卦孙钖稍熟稔，适宫氏函至，钖大惊，方知刘氏竟亦八卦中人。遇山西任德奎，以为其形意可观。赵堡王树森，陈氏太极拳压众。而沧州同乡李玉祥，则以青萍剑法负誉津门。刘氏尤爱梁家嘴，七十八国术馆馆长王云章之寸八番，欲从之学。云章轻之，漫不为礼。率为刘氏趁机痛击于其诸弟子前，大骂夺门而去。此时少年英发，十五二十之大端也。
刘父以习武旨在强身，而爱子沉溺太过。年岁渐长，宜务正业。乃于一九三七年入朝阳大学，攻法律。不料泸沟炮呜，全面抗战。刘氏脱身走西北，入西安军分校，习万人敌。
毕业入伍，自排长始，屡战积功，升连、营、团长，至上校军阶。数次负伤，一度被俘，解郓城。自分必死，辞色不稍屈。日军善与战俘格斗，以为戏侮，且习实战。刘氏必连败之，锐不可当。日人敬其勇、服其技，反以军中配给之肉食罐头分享。于是防范稍懈，刘氏越垣夜遁，从其后而欲脱逃者，不知凡几！但闻枪声如雨下，可怜枪下魂矣！
刘氏引军入陕，遇天津旧识灌云人李增树于西安，时任西北农民银行保镖。增树久居山西，形意功纯，擅大枪，求一较。鏖战移时，而终屈于刘氏绝技左把枪下。
又在宝鸡，遇前开封国术馆马金义馆长，极擅心意六合之技，谈武论艺于茶肆，有不洽意，起立试手。金义奋身抢中盘，刘氏以八极拳一记「托窗」，化力还力，掷送之飞越茶案而仆。金义叹服，明日亲送国术馆顾问聘书，遂订深交。
一九四九年，随军渡台湾。曾任伞兵大队长，翱翔于青天白云之上，意气犹不稍减。后调国防部人事室主任，诠叙鉴定赴台官兵之阶等。己觉案槽劳形，非所胜任。再转联劝总部，督造眷村，大庇诸军眷属皆欢颜。而刘氏清廉自守，书空咄咄，蜗居于台北近郊，景美镇头，日据时代旧市场，光复后以甘蔗板隔间，以为军眷临时宿舍之三间蔗板屋，一小方天井中。年未知命，即己慨然引退矣。
台北之新公园，为练武名所之一。传道其中者，不乏名手。六合螳螂在台唯一传人—-张详三，课徒于兹，三十余年如一日。一九六六年间，偶与二非武术界，然时来打拳运动之人士闲话，其一曰：我们沧州刘云樵，如何如何……；另一则谓：应是我们天津刘云樵，怎样怎样……；详三莞尔，道是「只怕是我师弟，俺们山东黄县的刘云樵吧！」而三人之中，唯沧州某实同乡，知刘氏在台，引见详三，握手恍如隔世。
由是遂不能隐，稍稍与武林游。其时，立法院中每逢周日，例为武术界聚会之所。其会议室某号，为太极拳学会活动之地。而共和厅中，则各派名手云集，有「聚义厅」之谑号。时论以为：「台湾的武术，台北最盛；台北的高手都在立法院『开会』」云云。
刘氏与诸巨子游，怅然若有所失……，乃收生徒三五，痛施严厉之钟炼。凡经启诱，不数月竟判若两人，于是众佥惊佩，益挽之参与武术之组织及活动。
时有全国技击委员会者，胡伟克将军主其事。遇刘氏，大惊诧；每数日必谋一晤以为快。又为引介蒋纬国将军，纬国惊问：「是跟我同守潼关的刘云樵吗﹖」
一九六八年，初膺重寄，代伟克以中华国术代表队副领队身份，手提劲旅，往访马来西亚。宣慰侨胞，交流武林，并为马国之社会研究所筹募基金，在吉隆坡盛大义演，极获成功。
一九七〇年，应聘赴菲律滨。于马尼拉开办太极拳、八卦掌，及昆吾剑班。因逢菲国水灾，更参加慈善义演，账灾救难。
一九七一年六月，创刊《武坛》武术专门杂志，好评虽多，而经营之能力恨拙！延至一九七三年，以财力告磬结束。
然该刊附设之武术训练班，滋长茁壮；续以武坛国术推广中心活跃。其教练今在全岛大专院校之武术社团任教者，二十余所。又因学生多系知识青年，出国升学、就职者多，以故武坛弟子遍布亚美欧洲，其中位高望崇者，殊不乏人。则于提升武术之格位，转换世人之观感，实有极不寻常之大影响在。
日本武家，耳刘氏名，多赴台湾受教，始识江海之大。大陆开放后，乃兴继续访求八极、劈挂之动机，热力久持不稍退。非唯沧州一地；益以北京、上海；即使西北、东北之八极拳家，无不受访求教，或更迎赴日本。据该国统计调查，除陈太极拳外，八极实为最受欢迎之门派。溯其源始，刘氏实肇其绪端。
刘氏应门人弟子之请，亦曾于一九八二年访美。一九八三年赴日。其在台北，亲自主持武坛中心之训练工作，未遑稍息。每年寒暑两季，分中南北区，在埔里(中)、关仔岭大仙寺(南)、及角板山风景区(北)之集训，迄为全岛注目之武林盛事。

Liu Yunqiao was born on February 12, 1909, because of poor health since the age of five, he was taught by the family servant Zhang Yaoting, in order to strengthen his body. He had been in private school for two years, studying in Cangzhou Primary School. When he was eight years old, his father, Liu Baoyi, invited Li Shuwen, a master of eight pole boxing, to teach boxing in his hometown. Li Shuwen was well-known in Beijing and Tianjin at the time, but because he had served as an instructor in Liu Baoyi’s army and was familiar with Liu Baoyi, he was able to invite him. Li Shuwen taught boxing seriously and strictly, which often injured Liu Yunqiao, but also laid the foundation for his deep skills in Bajiquan and palmtop.
When Liu Yunqiao was 20 years old, his father originally wanted him to study law at Chaoyang University, but Liu Yunqiao took the tuition fee and followed Li Shuwen everywhere. In 1931, at the invitation of Li Jinglin, Li Shuwen went to Shandong National Art Museum as the general instructor, accompanied by Liu Yunqiao. At that time, another disciple of Li Shuwen, Zhang Xiangwu, was in charge of maintaining public order, cleaning up tobacco and drugs, and eliminating bandits in Huangxian County, Shandong Province, and Li Shuwen took Liu Yunqiao to visit. Liu Yunqiao at the beginning of this time began to show his horn, repeatedly defeated several fighters to challenge, get the title of “little overlord”.
When Li Shuwen lived in Huang County, Zhang Xiangwu once performed the Kunwu sword method, and asked Li Shuwen to correct him and compile the Kunwu sword two sets of moves. With Zhang Xiangwu, Liu Yunqiao learned Wudang swordplay, Qingping swordplay and Kunwu swordplay. At the end of 1931, Li Jinglin died, and Li Shuwen let Liu Yunqiao follow Zhang Xiangwu and continue to travel. Liu Yunqiao stayed with Zhang Xiangwu for more than two years, during which time he learned the Liuhe mantis boxing from the local famous mantis boxing master Ding Zicheng, and learned eight months of Bagua Zhang from Gong Baotian when Gong Baotian came to visit, but he did not formally pay a visit to the master.
According to Liu Yunqiao’s descendants, Li Shuwen was poisoned in Wei County, Shandong province, on his way back to Tianjin. But in fact, Li Shuwen lived for two years in the home of Li Yifang in Tianjin Railway Station before he died. In any case, after Li Shuwen’s death, Liu Yunqiao returned home. In 1936, he defeated the Kwantung Army Kendo teacher Tokzaburo Ota in Tianjin, and thus received the attention of the Kuomintang intelligence unit, absorbing him as an intelligence officer and responsible for assassination.
In the 26 years of the Republic of China (1937), Liu Yunqiao applied for the seventh branch School of the Huangpu Military Academy in Fengxiang, Shaanxi Province (the 15th period), and formally joined the army to serve the country. He graduated in the year 28 (1939). While waiting for distribution, he was arrested and sent to prison for accidentally wounding the academy principal while hunting. After completing his service, Liu was discharged from the military and spent two or three years at home in Jingmei, Taipei. In 1967, the Presidential Palace security Office was ready to be reorganized, and after the recommendation of his military classmate General Kong Lingsheng, Chiang Kai-shek summoned him to the Presidential Palace Security Office as a security adviser, and taught the bodyguard Bajiquan.
