这七组《中国自然历史绘画》包含16本图谱：中国动物图谱、野生植物图谱、通草画（棉布纺织、玻璃制造、竹纸制造、煤矿采运）、中国花鸟图绘、中国制漆图谱、各式炉灶图、陶瓷烧制、金属手工艺白描图等等，其中部分动植物图由法国画家Pierre Joseph Buchoz绘制。
这一些关于中国的记录型绘画大致绘制于18-19世纪，当时法国王室希望对中国有更深的了解，通过大量传教士和商行团来到中国，他们通过绘画记录当时他们的见闻，也有大部分绘画是中国当地的画师绘制再卖给这些西方旅行者（被称为外销画），所以这些绘画大部分都有中文标注及访问注释。后来法国王室将这些资料转交法国国家图书馆保存。
These seven groups of “Chinese Natural History Painting” include 16 atlases: Chinese animal atlas, wild plant atlas, general grass painting (cotton textile, glass manufacturing, bamboo paper manufacturing, coal mining and transportation), Chinese flower and bird atlas, Chinese painting atlas, various stove atlas, ceramic firing, metal handicraft line drawing, etc. Some of the animal and plant atlas were drawn by Pierre Joseph Buchoz, a French painter.

These recorded paintings about China were roughly painted in the 18th and 19th centuries. At that time, the French royal family wanted to have a deeper understanding of China. They came to China through a large number of missionaries and business groups. They recorded their views and heard at that time through paintings. Most of the paintings were painted by local Chinese painters and then sold to these western tourists (known as export paintings). Therefore, most of these paintings have Chinese marks and visiting notes. Later, the French royal family transferred these materials to the French National Library for preservation.
