少林武术是少林寺僧和俗家弟子长期艰苦磨炼的结晶，具有朴实无华、进退一线、曲而不曲、直而不直、滚出滚入、重在实战等特点，是我国最早最大的民间武术流派之一。久练不久可强身健体、祛病延年，还可陶冶性能、磨炼意志； 不仅有自卫护身和惩罚歼的实际作用，还能从中得到人体美的艺术享受。本教材共分为八册：《少林武术理论》《少林武术基本功》《少林拳》《少林棍》《少林常用器械》《少林稀有器械》《少林拳对练》《少林器械对练》。前两册是对少林武术的内容、常用术语、教学训练、基本功夫、基本技法的介绍和概论；后六册则是从《少林拳谱》的576个套路中精选出52个优秀传统套路，分别对各动作图附文加以说明。本教材适宜国内外各武术馆校、辅导站等习武场所的学员和教练员应用，并可供中小学体育教师和公安、武警工作者参考。
