敦邦同志的人物画，不但国内闻名而且已誉传域外，用不着我们这门汉外汉来妄加月旦了。人们都知道，敦邦同志常自称是民间艺人。这既非自谦，更不是自诩，而是出自他对我国传统所间绘画技法的真知灼见和执着求索。他的艺术造诣，也确实得益于汉画象砖、魏晋壁画，木版插图者甚多而自成风格。《聊斋》谈狐说鬼，实际上是以魑魅魍魉为题材而折射出作者所处现实世界的种种社会相。作者笔下的狐鬼常具人性，而他对人的描绘又不恤剥露其兽性。他的恣肆的想象往往跟现实生活的细致真切的叙写融为一体。他的尖锐的讽刺常出之于温文尔雅。敦邦的绘画风格是寓神于形、形中求神，于粗犷见绵密，于夸张中蕴理性。以他来画具人性的狐鬼花妖和具兽性的官绅胥吏，正可以说是初写黄庭，恰到好处。

Comrade Dunbang’s character paintings are not only well-known domestically but also widely spread overseas, so there is no need for us, as Han people from other regions, to add mooncakes. People know that Comrade Dunbang often claims to be a folk artist. This is neither self deprecating nor self proclaimed, but rather stems from his profound insight and persistent pursuit of traditional painting techniques in our country. His artistic attainments are indeed attributed to Han Dynasty brick paintings, Wei and Jin Dynasty murals, and many woodblock illustrators who have developed his own style. The talk of foxes and ghosts in “Liaozhai” actually reflects the various social aspects of the author’s real world through the theme of demons and monsters. The fox ghosts in the author’s works often embody human nature, and his depictions of humans do not care about revealing their animalistic nature. His wild imagination often blends with the meticulous and vivid depiction of real life. His sharp satire often comes from being gentle and refined. Dunbang’s painting style is imbued with the spirit in form, seeking the spirit in form, revealing roughness and density, and embodying rationality in exaggeration. Using him to depict human like fox ghosts, flower demons, and animal like officials, gentry, and petty officials can be said to be the first description of Huangting, just right.
When this album is presented to readers, what readers can obtain may be higher than other works by Comrade Dunbang.
