Chaquan is one of the five major schools of traditional Chinese boxing, Changquan, which is widely spread among the Hui ethnic group and originated in Shandong Province. There are three branches of Chaquan in Guanxian: “Zhang’s” Chaquan, “” Yang’s “Chaquan, and” Li’s “Chaquan in Rencheng. Among them, the “Zhang family” and “Yang family” in Guanxian County are related to the anti Japanese hero of the late Ming Dynasty – Qi Jiguang from Dengzhou (now Penglai) who conscripted the Xinjiang Hui ethnic group Chamir (Shangyi). The division of martial arts between the two schools of Chaquan in Guanxian County occurred during the Yongzheng period of the Qing Dynasty, while the formation of the Rencheng School’s skills may have been earlier.

On June 7, 2008, Chaquan was approved by the State Council to be included in the second batch of national intangible cultural heritage list.
