This collection of original pattern reproduction paintings: discovered by the Pablo Native Americans in Palenque, a Spanish military officer named Antonio del R í o in 1787 conducted cleaning, research, drawing, and inspection of the ancient Mayan city ruins. He also hired a dangerous Mara draftsman named Ricardo Almond á riz to draw 30 spectacular paintings of the Palenque ruins.

Palenque is located in the state of Chiapas, Mexico, and is a Mayan city site. The city was the location of the royal palace of a powerful dynasty in the 7th century BC, but it was abandoned in the 9th century and covered in forests. In the mid-19th century, villagers near SantoDominodo Palenque discovered this ancient city. In 1787, King Charles III of Spain ordered the Governor of Guatemala to excavate the site and collect artifacts for the Museum of Nature in Madrid. The governor entrusted the work to a Spanish officer named Antonio del R í o, who spent a total of five weeks that year cleaning, researching, mapping, and inspecting the site. Delio’s research report can be regarded as the number one important scientific and archaeological achievement in the Americas. Delio hired a Guatemalan draftsman named Ricardo Almond á riz, who created 30 spectacular ink paintings of the Palenque site. This set of drawings collected by the Library of Congress is the most complete modern version of Almond á riz drawings.
