“出马”，据说是指一些动物，例如狐狸、蛇、黄鼠狼等，修炼成精而附体人身，进而让人有了为他人断事治病的能力。是否确有其事，并无任何科学依据可言。只是，自古以来民间的部分民众秉持着一种经验主义的“实证精神”，固执地认为确有其事，也因此“大仙”的传统才能延续至今。只是，如今这些所谓的“大仙”，不少人本身就是体弱多病的患者，主要是中老年妇女，她们普遍文化程度不高，法律意识薄弱。由于“大仙”市场的供不应求，“大仙”们可谓财源滚滚。而一般人极容易被金钱的欲望所奴役，进而做出欺骗、敲诈等违法行为。
