《良友》画报于1926年诞生于上海,创办者是伍联德先生。
作为一份大型综合画报,它一出现便受到了大众的欢迎。1926年2月创刊之时,创刊号共售出7000册,可谓一炮而红。随后,《良友》画报的影响不断扩大,不仅在国内拥有众多的读者,在国外也享有很高的声誉,尤其受到华侨同胞们的欢迎。美国、加拿大、澳洲、日本等多个国家都有《良友》画报的忠实读者,影响十分广泛。
《良友》画报1926年2月创刊,一炮打响,创刊号初版3000册,两三天内售空,再版2000册不足应付,又再版2000册,总共7000册,在当年,是个不错的数目了。第一期封面是一幅套色照像———一个手捧鲜花、笑靥迎人的少女,这就是日后红极一时的电影明星胡蝶女士。
1945年10月,《良友》停刊,20年间,以八开本刊行,共出172期。《良友》共载彩图400余幅,照片达32000余幅,近现代中国社会的发展变迁、世界局势的动荡不安、中国军政学商各界之风云人物、社会风貌、文化艺术、戏剧电影、古迹名胜等等无不详尽记录,可称为百科式大画报。当年就有评论说:“《良友》一册在手,学者专家不觉得浅薄,村夫妇孺也不嫌其高深。”《良友》在世界五大洲都有销路,当年凡是有华侨居住的地方都有《良友》,赢得了“良友遍天下”的美誉。各国大图书馆也竞相收藏《良友》,作为了解中国的窗口。
1926年2月15日,一份图文并茂的大型综合性画报《良友》画报创刊。该刊从内容编排、形式设计到印刷发行,一律采用先进的照相制版术印刷,从而突破了过去画报的局限。
《良友》画报的创办人是广东台山县人伍联德,先在上海一所小学任图画教员,后兼任儿童教育出版物的美术编辑。此次他筹资金出版的《良友》画报,不仅登载国际国内军事、政治以及经济建设新闻图片,还介绍国内外文化艺术。且以西洋画新作为尤。此外,《良友》画报大量介绍时下流行的各种服装款式、发型,并向社会征集广告。
良友是中国现代新闻出版史上第一本大型综合性画报,大致分为民国版《良友》、新中国成立后的《良友》和改革开放后的《良友》三个时期,其中民国版被奉为经典。自1926年2月创刊到另刊有“孙中山纪念特刊”、“良友8周年纪念刊”2期特刊。
刊物内容包括近现代国内外时局,如中华国民党中央执行委员会的开会情况、五卅运动的追悼会、香港飓风惨状、中日战争情况;以及美国、德国、意大利、日本等国家的政治、经济、军事、风土人情等。
作为一份商业性画报,刊物为迎合及引导社会风尚,大量刊登各类有关文化艺术、戏剧电影、体育、美术、旅游、科技等时人追捧崇尚的新奇摩登事务,刊物的封面人物多为当时著名的影视明星,内部亦有大量的名伶生活照、剧照和新闻报导,如尚小云、胡蝶、唐雪卿等;对政治、经济、军事、文化界的风云人物如汪精卫、李宗仁、康有为、胡适等也有记载;至于社会百态,既有如《北京最新出的人力车》、《特殊照相之摄印法》等图文报道各类新鲜事物,也有“世界珍闻”栏目记录世界上各种千奇百怪的人、物与事件。另外,刊物亦有少量散文、小说等文学作品,如刘恨我的唱片小说《春梦余痕》等。
该刊刊载彩色图画400余幅,照片32000余幅,内容分为国内新闻人物、国际新闻及人物、戏剧电影、美术摄影、社会生活、文学艺术、名人手迹、科学技术、广而告之等部分,它从多角度多侧面展现了上世纪二三十年代社会生活的方方面面。
此外,该刊为道林纸铜版套色印刷,印制技术精良,在中国印刷史上也占重要地位,可以说《良友》是一座丰富而珍贵的资料库。因此,对这份画报的研究成果已经十分丰富,包括从社会学、传播学、美学等角度对画报主要内容、登载广告、刊物发行模式、影响力的分析,以及对该画报与文化启蒙、都市现代性、消费空间、人物形象建构等关系的探讨。
第一期以影星胡蝶为封面,彩色套印,开中国刊物以名媛为封面的先河。 同年11月出版第一个特刊《孙中山先生纪念特刊》,共55页,200幅照片。创刊人兼第一人总编辑伍联德,后因业务繁忙,不能全心主持编务,第4期后将编务委托于周瘦鹃,因周不擅画报业务,遂聘请当时正在齐鲁大学读书的青年梁得所主持,梁会作画、擅摄影,文笔亦佳,1927年接任总编后力图革新,两年内画报月销量达4万余份,发行全球,号称凡是有华人的地方就有《良友》画报。
梁得所当了8年主编后另起炉灶,离开《良友》。
1930年3月改为影写凹版印刷,质量大为提高,这年8月,第50期篇幅增加至42页,并有3页五彩页。
1938年1-3月因抗战爆发迁往香港。1939年2月在上海复刊。
1941年9月被日军查封。
1945年一度复刊,后因股东分歧而停刊。
1954年伍联德又在香港复刊,1968年停刊。
1984年《良友》再次复刊。

The pictorial magazine “Good Friends” was founded in February 1926, and it went viral. The inaugural issue had an initial edition of 3000 copies, which sold out within two to three days. However, a second edition of 2000 copies was not enough, and another edition of 2000 copies, totaling 7000 copies, was a good number that year. The first cover is a set color photo – a young girl holding flowers and smiling, which is the popular movie star Ms. Hu Die in the future.
In October 1945, “Liangyou” ceased publication. Over the course of 20 years, it was published in eight volumes, with a total of 172 issues. “Good Friends” contains more than 400 color images and more than 32000 photos, providing detailed records of the development and changes of modern Chinese society, the turmoil of the world situation, the influential figures in various fields of Chinese military, political, academic, and business, social style, culture and art, drama and movies, historical sites and scenic spots, and so on. It can be called an encyclopedia style pictorial newspaper. Back then, there was a commentary that said, “A book called” Good Friends “was in my hands, and scholars and experts did not find it shallow, nor did rural couples and children find it profound.” Good Friends “had sales on five continents around the world, and wherever overseas Chinese lived, there was” Good Friends “, earning the reputation of” good friends all over the world “. Major libraries around the world are also competing to collect “Good Friends” as a window to learn about China.
On February 15, 1926, a large comprehensive pictorial newspaper with illustrations and text, “Liangyou” Pictorial, was founded. The magazine adopts advanced photographic plate making techniques from content arrangement, form design to printing and distribution, thus breaking through the limitations of traditional pictorial newspapers.
The founder of Liangyou Pictorial was Wu Liande, a native of Taishan County, Guangdong Province. He first worked as a picture teacher in a primary school in Shanghai and later served as an art editor for children’s education publications. The illustrated magazine “Liangyou” that he raised funds to publish this time not only publishes international and domestic military, political, and economic construction news and pictures, but also introduces domestic and foreign cultural and artistic works. And take Western painting as an example. In addition, the illustrated magazine “Liangyou” extensively introduces various popular clothing styles and hairstyles, and solicits advertisements from society.
Liangyou is the first large-scale comprehensive pictorial newspaper in the history of modern news and publishing in China. It can be roughly divided into three periods: the Republic of China edition of Liangyou, the post establishment period of the People’s Republic of China, and the post reform and opening-up period of Liangyou. Among them, the Republic of China edition is regarded as a classic. Since its establishment in February 1926, there have been two special issues: “Sun Yat sen Memorial Special Issue” and “Good Friends 8th Anniversary Memorial Issue”.
The content of the publication includes the current domestic and international situation in modern times, such as the meetings of the Central Executive Committee of the Kuomintang, the memorial service for the May 30th Movement, the tragedy of the Hong Kong hurricane, and the situation of the Sino Japanese War; And the politics, economy, military, customs, and traditions of countries such as the United States, Germany, Italy, and Japan.
As a commercial pictorial, the publication caters to and guides social trends by publishing a large number of novel and modern affairs related to culture and art, drama and film, sports, art, tourism, technology, and other popular topics. The cover characters of the publication are mostly famous film and television stars at that time, and there are also a large number of life photos, stills, and news reports of famous actors inside, such as Shang Xiaoyun, Hu Die, Tang Xueqing, etc; There are also records of influential figures in the political, economic, military, and cultural fields such as Wang Jingwei, Li Zongren, Kang Youwei, Hu Shi, etc; As for the various social phenomena, there are both graphic and textual reports on various new things such as “Beijing’s latest rickshaw” and “Special Photography and Printing Method”, as well as “World Treasures” columns that record various strange people, things, and events around the world. In addition, the publication also has a small number of literary works such as prose and novels, such as Liu Hen’s record novel “Spring Dream Remaining Traces”.
The magazine publishes over 400 colorful pictures and over 32000 photos, covering various aspects of social life in the 1920s and 1930s, including domestic news figures, international news and figures, drama and film, art photography, social life, literature and art, celebrity handwriting, science and technology, and advertising. It presents various aspects of social life from multiple perspectives and perspectives.
In addition, the publication is a Daolin paper copperplate color printing with excellent printing technology, which also holds an important position in the history of Chinese printing. It can be said that “Liangyou” is a rich and precious database. Therefore, the research results on this pictorial have been very rich, including an analysis of the main content, advertising, publication distribution models, and influence of the pictorial from the perspectives of sociology, communication studies, aesthetics, etc., as well as an exploration of the relationship between the pictorial and cultural enlightenment, urban modernity, consumer space, character image construction, etc.
The first issue featured actress Hu Die as the cover, with color overprinting, pioneering the use of socialites as the cover in Chinese publications. In November of the same year, the first special issue “Sun Yat sen Memorial Special” was published, consisting of 55 pages and 200 photos. The founder and first editor in chief, Wu Liande, was unable to fully oversee the editorial work due to busy business. After the fourth issue, he entrusted the editorial work to Zhou Shoujuan. As Zhou was not good at drawing newspapers, he hired a young man named Liang De, who was studying at Qilu University at the time, to oversee the work. Liang was skilled in painting and photography, and had excellent writing skills. After taking over as editor in chief in 1927, he attempted to innovate and within two years, the monthly sales of the painting newspaper reached more than 40000 copies, which were distributed worldwide, It is claimed that wherever there are Chinese people, there is the illustrated magazine “Good Friends”.
After serving as the editor in chief for 8 years, Liang Desuo started anew and left Good Friends.
In March 1930, it was changed to photogravure printing, which greatly improved the quality. In August of that year, the length of the 50th issue increased to 42 pages, with 3 colorful pages.
Moved to Hong Kong from January to March 1938 due to the outbreak of the Anti Japanese War. It resumed publication in Shanghai in February 1939.
In September 1941, it was seized by the Japanese army.
It resumed publication in 1945 but was later discontinued due to shareholder disagreements.
In 1954, Wu Liande resumed publication in Hong Kong and ceased publication in 1968.
In 1984, Good Friends resumed publication.
